Paper is patient, versatile, flexible and offers unimagined design possibilities. It is still relevant and firmly integrated into our everyday lives.
While working as a paper conservator for fire-damaged written materials at the Herzogin-Anna-Amalia library in Weimar, Maja discovered her love for colored papers. These have a long historical tradition.
Maja Chemnitz is a trained bookbinder and paper restorer who lives and works in Berlin. She has been working with the medium of paper for over 30 years. Since 2011 she develops different colored paper techniques and creates new patterns also as design – and draft design for fabrics and home textiles, wallpapers and decorations.
For her it is a need to create a symbiosis of tradition and modernity.
