BFF talk: Women in photography

August 29, 2019

The female perspective – from female photographers

Publication in the Photopresse magazine about the panel discussion on the topic Gender Pay Gap

I am a member of the BFF professional association of freelance photographers and film designers. In August 2019 the BFF turned 50 and celebrated with the opening of four exhibitions.

Our guests:

Katharina Mouratidi: artistic director f 3 – free space for photography

Sabine Pallaske: bildgerecht.de, chairwoman of the MFM

Jana Marx: Photo Producer Stink

Andreas Till: Picture Editor at TERRITORY

Everyone agreed on one point. Female photographers do just as professional and great a job as their male colleagues. But they need to become more visible. There was also consensus that many clients could ask for and commission more women photographers. During the discussion it became clear that too often female photographers are not noticed and are less visible in their work.

Andreas Till put it in a nutshell. He reported how many photographers, in relation to women photographers, introduce themselves to him in the agency. With about 80% of the portfolio appointments the men are clearly superior, which was confirmed by the other talk guests.
