At the beginning of 2019, there was reason for joy. I made it among the honorable mentions with my family series at the Julia Margaret Cameron Award. The award is aimed at professional women photographers worldwide. It takes place on an international level and only admits female photographers. The jury also consists of female members only.
In a side street not far from the Arc de Triomf is the Galerie Valid. It is known for contemporary photo exhibitions. The exhibition opening of the Julia Margaret Cameron Award will take place there this evening. The gallery is already well attended when I arrive. Over 80 works are on display, as 40 participants from 28 nations are exhibiting here tonight. It fills me with joy to be there – as the only German exhibitor.
The Julia Margaret Cameron Award for contemporary women’s photography was judged by Andrea Star-Reese, Julia Fullerton-Batten and Laura Pannack. It is aimed at female photographers of all media, styles and schools of thought. The award is sponsored by the Biennale for Visual Arts and Documentary Photography.
